Photo: Father Burns 13-yr-old Son With Iron, Ties Him to Window for 3 Days

A father of five, Austin Segun, who tied his 13-year-old son to a burglar-proof for three days because a Church leader said the boy was a wizard, has been given an ultimatum to leave Eruemukohwarien community, Ughelli North LGA of Delta State. .

Mr. Segun was said to have been released on bail after he was arrested and detained at the Ughelli ‘A’ Division Police Station over the incident. The victim, Tobi Segun, who just finished his Primary 6 School Leaving Certificate exams, was rescued by a group of vigilante, who heard him whimpering at about 2a.m. .

One of the vigilante members, who rescued the victim, told Wobegist that during their routine night patrol, they heard the faint cry of the boy saying he wants to die and that he can no longer bear the torture.

The boy was tied to the window protector while his hands were tied behind him. Confirming the incident, the victim’s step-mother, Mrs. Edijala Favour Segun, said: “They told us that he is a wizard at a Church we went to for prayers and he also admitted that he is a wizard.

At a point, my husband had to use a hot iron to burn his palm and feet owing to his misbehaviour. Despite this, he opened the fridge in the house and ate everything. This led to my husband tying his hands and legs to the protector. He had just been tied for three days before we were arrested.

I was asked to take Tobi to the Ughelli Central Hospital for treatment. My husband was able to secure his release, but the IPO in charge of the case ordered that we should move out of the community.”

Recounting his ordeal to Wobegist, Tobi said: “I always run from the house because I am not comfortable. My mother is dead and the woman here is my step-mother.”

"Stop dating guys in the same Circle,  you may lose your Brand New Effect" - Joro Olumofin

Nigerian psychologist and relationships adviser; Joro Olumofin, has today take to his IG handle to advice ladies on the kind of guys they should go on date with.

Here's what he shared;

Based on Direct & Indirect Observation I've gathered that some ladies date the same group of guys, guys in the same social circle or clique. The irony is that these ladies who date guys in the same clique always expect a different result In terms of Relationship Progress, Engagement πŸ’ or Mutual Respect from guys in the clique or their peers but most times it doesn't happen.

In Psychology,  there's a Sampling Technique known as "Randomisation" which is assinging Participants to a group by allowing them all have equal chances of being choosen so as to achieve standardized result or standard opportunities.  This being said, Ladies if you want to an equal and justifiable opportunity for meeting a guy, Don't date or mingle with guys in the same circle over a long period of time because .

1⃣ You won't have that "Wow", "Damn", "OMG who's she effect" because they already know a lot about you

2⃣ They may start looking at you like one of the guys and friendzone you automatically

3⃣ Guys gossip more than ladies and you'd be surprised what the guys in the circle may have shared about you, they may know every dimple and scar on your body

4⃣ You may end up being a conquest. A guy may be like since Akin,  Emeka and Tunde have had her I must have her too.

5⃣ Guys like to show off their Girlfriend to friends so who will they show you off to if you've dated 3 of their friends

6⃣ Some guys will basically think they know your life history and will be blocking potentials from coming your way by spreading your gist. .

There are so many guys in different parts of the country with various backgrounds who are equally successful, handsome, God fearing and are willing to settle down so don't limit yourself to a group or segment of guys because by doing this you're limiting your chances or opportunity to meet someone who won't judge you for what his friends said about you but give you a clean slate and allow you prove yourself to him without any 3rd party opinions or extraneous variables.

Stay Away from Boli, Suya, they can Cause Cancer – SOGHIN warn Nigerian

Nigerians have been urged to go for periodic screening, especially for colon cancer, which is said to be a huge burden on the country, as it is common among people above 40. .

The President, Society for Gastroenterology and Hepatology in Nigeria President, Prof Musa Borodo, gave this warning at a press briefing commemorating the 10th Scientific Conference and Annual General Meeting of the association in Ado Ekiti. .

Borodo warned that diseases such as colorectal cancer, liver cancer, helicobacter pyloris and other infections that occur in the gastrointestinal tract, are usually not easy to detect when looking out for signs and symptoms. .

And when the symptoms are obvious they are often too late to treat. According to him, about 10 percent of people in Nigeria are suffering from Hepatitis B – a viral infection – which he warned could lead to cancer, if not properly treated. .

“This (Hepatitis B) is something that can be prevented, if you don’t treat it, it could become cancer. So, it is a huge problem.” Borodo said it was chosen to create awareness on early detection of cancer, prevention and cure.

Borodo lamented that two cases of cancer at end stage are reported daily in the treatment centre. He advised people to take natural foods, avoid refined sugar, eat well, exercise regularly, drink clean water, visit hospitals for routine check up and stay away from smoking to avoid cancer. .

Stating some of the cause of cancer, the Chairman, Local Organising Committee for the conference, Dr. Deji Ajayi, cautioned against taking burnt boli (plantain), burnt suya and refined drinks as they could cause cancer.

We bathed once a week, ate once a day, slept in the rain — Freed Lagos pupil

One of the freed pupils of the Lagos State Model College, Igbonla, Epe, Ramon Isiaq, has said his stay in the kidnappers’ hideout is an experience he would never forget in a hurry.

The 16-year-old Senior Secondary School 2 pupil said the abductors exposed him and his colleagues – Peter Jonah, Adebayo George, Judah Agbausi, Pelumi Philips and Farouq Yusuf – to rains in the camp they were kept.

He said they were fed with poorly cooked food and that they were only allowed to bathe once in a week.

The children were dropped at a creek in Ondo State around 12 pm on Friday after spending 64 days in captivity.

They were reunited with their parents in Lagos later.

Their release came on the heels of fresh N5m ransom collected by the kidnappers on Tuesday at Odi-Omi community in Ogun State.

Isiaq in a brief chat with one of our correspondents on the telephone on Saturday said there were times they went hungry all day.

He said, “After they kidnapped us that day (May 25), we were kept around our school, while a (police) helicopter was patrolling the area. They asked us to hide in a bush so that people in the helicopter would not see us. In the midnight, they sent a boat to pick us.

“The following day, they gave us spaghetti. We ate the same thing in the afternoon and evening. They told us that some security men were sent to fight them, but they killed the men. They threatened that we would die there.

“We were seven in an uncompleted building. The seventh person is a man that was looking after us. It was a bad experience. We didn’t enjoy our sleep. We always prayed that rain would not fall. If rain fell, it would beat us. Sometimes, they didn’t give us food; at times they gave us food once in a day. At other times, they wouldn’t give us food at all. We ate together. We bathed once or twice in a week.”

At a point, Isiaq stated that he and the other pupils complained about their maltreatment to the leader of the kidnap gang.

“After some time, I met with their boss called ‘Chief’ or ‘Chairman’ that we did not enjoy the food they cooked for us and that we should be allowed to prepare our food by ourselves. They didn’t allow us to move around…” the Lagos pupil stated as his father stopped the conversation.

The father promised SUNDAY PUNCH that Isiaq would speak more with one of correspondents about his experience later in the day.

However, subsequent calls made to the father’s telephone line were not picked.

Also, parents of the other pupils rescued from the kidnappers did not allow SUNDAY PUNCH to speak with the freed kids.

They also declined to share any experience the kids narrated to them with one of our correspondents.

After some persuasion, one of the parents who preferred to speak on condition of anonymity told SUNDAY PUNCH that her son took ill while held hostage by the kidnappers.

“We have been told not to ask them any question, except they decide to talk about their experience. So, I wouldn’t want to expose him to any danger. But so far, he told me they were moved from one camp to another and that they were cooking by themselves at a point. He also fell sick while in captivity. While the school was in second term, he was ill and was recuperating when the abduction happened. I think the kind of environment he was exposed to by those guys made him to fall sick again. He is relaxed now.

“He said one of the camps was built with straw and that the kidnappers mounted a tarpaulin to cover them when the rain was much. They allowed them to move around and did not maltreat them. One of them, (Isiaq) who can swim had started teaching them how to do so. My son told me they were wearing black clothes before they gave them the jerseys they wore yesterday (Friday). The jerseys had been collected for laboratory examination,”
she said.

Meanwhile, a security source has denied that extra N5m was paid before the pupils were freed.

A top security officer who spoke on condition of anonymity told SUNDAY PUNCH that it was the extra efforts.

Double Birthday Gift: "My Lover and Her Uncle Banged Me Same Night" - Lady Claim

He was over me and bound me. He at that point moved his hand to cover my mouth as he slid his enormous cock into me and slammed me to stupour.

I met Saheed one Wednesday afternoon, a day that happened to be my birthday.

He offered me a lift home yet as we were having a discussion in his auto, it came up that I was a year more older that day.

He was excited and offered to take me out for lunch. We got to know each other better as we sat opposite each other in the restaurant. I felt and instant attraction to him and I did not want the date to end. He seemed to feel the same way too because he suggested we hung out at his house for the evening.

I went along with him, excited to hang out with him some more. I discovered he was not based in Lagos but was only around that week for business so he was staying with an uncle during this time. When we got to his place, I met his uncle who was a lot older. He was on his way out when we entered so Saheed and I had the house to ourselves.

We sat beside each other on the couch, enjoying each other company as the attraction built. In minutes, we were kissing and clinging to each other hungrily. He hurriedly took off my clothes and I did the same for him. He slid his cock into my waiting cunt and I moaned out his name in pleasure. The s*x was rough but very pleasurable. We f*cked like two animals in heat until we laid, panting after we both enjoyed an intense orgasm.

Later that evening, we went to a nearby bar. I knew we were on a whole different playing field when he began to down bottles after bottles of beer. His company was not as fun as it was earlier because, soon, his words became slurred and I figured it was time to end the night. When we returned home, I realised he slept in the living room.

He laid a mattress on the ground and I helped him lay his sheet on it. His lips were soon on mine as he claimed me hungrily. The s*x was not as good as earlier and he did not last as long so I had to go to sleep, n*ked and horny by his side.

I must have been asleep for only a couple of hours when, in my sleepy haze, I felt a hand clawing between my legs. I tried to bring myself back to consciousness as I felt a finger inside my p*ssy, I moaned, savouring the feeling of the finger pumping hard into my cunt, getting me wet. Finally, I opened my eyes. It was not Saheed finger-f*cking me but his uncle.

He looked at my n*ked body lustfully as he fingered me. Saheed was right beside me, passed out from alcohol. I tried to get up but as soon as his uncle saw that I was about to struggled, he moved so he was on top of me and pinned me down. He then moved his hand to cover my mouth as he slid his cock into me.

He did not need to bother, his cock, though not very long, was thick and it filled me completely. I melted as soon as he began moving in and out of me. He eventually took his hand off my mouth and replaced it with his lips. His kiss was intense as he fucked me.

The heady feeling of knowing his nephew was right beside us as he f*cked me completely drove me crazy. I moved my hips upwards to meet his as he fucked me even harder. I closed my eyes and began to shudder as I came. His thrusts became even more intense as he ground against me, purposefully hitting all my sweet spots. His breaths started coming faster and he began to quiver over me, cumming deep inside my cunt.

Very early the next morning, Saheed's uncle offered to take me home. I agreed since I had to change and get to work. We both left the house, leaving Saheed snoring away. I wonder if he would ever be told what really happen that night.

Just In: 9 Soldiers Feared Dead in Borno as Boko Haram Attacks Oil Workers

A security source has revealed that the prospects of oil exploration in the Lake Chad Basin of Nigeria in Borno state has suffered a major setback as Boko Haram have on Wednesday reportedly ambushed and attack a team of workers between Magumeri and Gubio on their way back to Maiduguri.

According to The Nation, the source informed that the workers were ambushed around Borno Yeso area of Magumeri, adding that “security personal providing protection and security to the workers including geologists from the University of Maiduguri were also badly affected in the ambushed.

Another source speculated that out of the ten vehicles that conveyed the oil workers including security, only one ten seater bus returned to Maiduguri with five wounded people hospitalized at the State Specialist Hospital Maiduguri.

The source added that many have been feared dead or taken alive as no contact has so far been made by some of the members of the team during the attack
There is no official statement from the military command in Borno State and the State Police Command on the attack.

A credible military source also informed our correspondent that some students of the Geology Department of the University, members of the Civilian Joint Task Force and other security personnel were victims of the attack

The Military source regretted that a conspiracy by head of the securities in trying to shield the information from the public.

His words: “As at 9:00 today Wednesday, no rescue plan has been put in place as far as I am aware from either the Nigeria Airforce component from the Theatre.

“Between Wednesday and today, only ten of the victims can be confirmed to be alive. The five oil workers that escaped the attack Wednesday were hospitalized at the Borno State Specialist Hospital.

“Also this morning around 5:00 precisely five others who escaped also called and told us their location.

“The five victims at the state specialist told us that out of the ten vehicles conveying the team from magumeri, only their vehicle escaped the attack with bullets shots, flat tyres and smashed wind screen.

“They said the insurgents had chased them for more than ten kilometers adding that most of the vehicle and the persons involved did not make it out of Magumeri,” the source disclosed.

The Nation recalls that President Buhari last year issued directives to the NNPC to resume the exploration of oil in the Lake Chad Basin and River Kolnami.

In compliance with the Presidential Directives, the GMD of NNPC sent a delegation to Borno State in May this year who paid courtesies on Gov. Kashim Shettima and the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar El-Kanemi with the assurance that the exploration will begin in six weeks’ time as peace was gradually returning to the state.

The latest attack has however cast a dark shadow on the prospect of the continuation of the exploration with renewed Boko Haram attacks and the increasing insecurity in the Lake Chad.

Kwara PDP Members Call For Resolution of Leadership Impasse

SUPPORTERS of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State have called on the national leadership of the party to resolve lingering leadership crisis in two factions of the party towards achieving a united front in the leading opposition party in the state before 2019 general elections.

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin at the weekend, members of the youth wing of the party in the state cautioned the national leadership of the party not to impose anybody as state chairman on the party in the state.

The youths, under the auspices of the concerned PDP youths in Kwara State and led by Comrade Musbau Esinrogunjo, called on the national chairman of the party, Sen Ahmad Makarfi, to give recognition to Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo as the chairman of the party in the state.

The youth leader, who expressed support of PDP youths in the state for the national chairman, Sen Ahmad Makarfi and rejoiced with him and the party on the recent Supreme Court judgment, said that, “we shall be calm, firm and resolute as party loyalists and wait for further directive from the party”.

“It is indeed a feat worthy of celebration from all and sundry. The victory has provided an avenue for us to put our house in order to take over the mantle of leadership in the country come 2019,” Esinrogunjo added.

According to the youth leader, Oyedepo as the state chairman of the party had provided sound leadership since he was elected.

Also speaking, the pioneer chairman of the PDP in Kwara State, Alhaji Kunle Sulyman, said that the national caretaker committee (NCC) of the party had affirmed factional chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, as state chairman in the state.

Speaking at Ganmo, near Ilorin at the weekend, where supporters of the party had gathered to receive Fagbemi and his team from a NEC meeting in Abuja, Alhaji Sulyman said Fagbemi was accredited to attend the maiden national executive council (NEC) meeting of the PDP’s NCC in Abuja last Tuesday after the supreme court’s ruling as the only recognized party chairman from Kwara State.

“Fagbemi’s name is number 88 on the accreditation list of the party’s NEC meeting.

“However, there is no victor nor vanquish in this issue. We are therefore urging our brothers in the other divide led by Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo to return to the mainstream so that together we can return our great party to its winning streak again,” he said.

Paris Club Fund: Governor Ahmed Approves Release of Additional N1b to Councils

Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has approved the release of additional N1billion to local government councils in the State to offset part of the outstanding salary arrears owed their staff.

This brings to N2billion the total amount of money the State government has released to the local government councils out of the N5.1billion it recently received as its share of the Paris Club refund from the Federal Government. The Governor had also earlier approved the release of N312m to state-owned-tertiary institutions for the payment of salary arrears.

Governor Ahmed gave the approval on Monday at a meeting with officials of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) and Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP) in the State.

This is as the governor also assured tertiary institutions in the State that the issue of delayed subvention will become a thing of the past.

The governor stated that the earlier N1b released to the councils should go towards payment of LG workers and pensioners, while the additional N1b should be used to pay staff of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

Alhaji Ahmed further noted that the decision to release additional N1billion to the councils was based on an understanding with the State House of Assembly during a meeting held earlier in the day as the Paris Club refund receipts were state funds captured in the 2017 budget.

The governor added that the decision was also based on the understanding with State Legislators that some of the projects budgeted for implementation in this fiscal year, such as the renovation of the indoor Sports Hall of the Kwara State Stadium, payment of counterpart funding for the construction of classrooms at the primary school level and other payments to State’s pensioners and workers will be suspended in favour of the Local government and SUBEB workers.

Governor Ahmed, however, emphasized that any further inflow to the State government under the Paris Club refund would be used to take care of salaries, pensions and projects that have now been stepped down.

Responding on behalf of his colleagues who were at the meeting, the State NLC Chairman, Comrade Yekeen Agunbiade said the labour leaders are grateful to the governor for acceding to their request by approving additional fundS to the local councils as this will bring relief to workers and pensioners.

Similarly, the heads of tertiary institutions in the State, earlier today called to commend Governor Ahmed for approving the release of N312, 191, 101.71 to the institutions to offset salary arrears of their workers. They, however, appealed to the governor to hasten the release of the fourth quarter subvention to the institutions.

14-year-old Hausa Wife Murdered Her Husband Just Five Months After Wedding (Photo)

A Nigerian teenage wife has left many people in serious shock after she brutally murdered her husband just five months after wedding.

A 14-year-old wife from Lifari Village in the Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger state has been arrested by the police for allegedly killing her 40-year-old husband, Isiaka Usman.

The Niger State Police Command revealed that the suspect, Aisha Isah, and the late Usman, to whom she got married five months ago, were cousins. The poor girl had been complaining of starvation and maltreatment since she started living with Usman, who already had two wives.

According to a report by Punch, one of the two wives was said to have left on account of the failure of Usman to meet up with his responsibilities to his family. While confessing on Tuesday, the teenager wife said that her late husband failed to provide for her for two days.

“And when I confronted him, he slapped me and out of anger, I hit him on the forehead with a pestle and he collapsed and died,” she explained.

Isah added, “My husband had the habit of not giving us money for food and each time we (the wives) confront him, he would tell us to go to our parents’ home and eat. He never cared about us; he beat us every time we demanded money for food.”

Asked if the other wife was at home at the time of the incident, she stated that the other wife went to the hospital with her baby.

No Plan to Shut Down Radio Kwara – KWSG

The Kwara State Government has described as completely untrue and an attempt to misinform the public, a story making the rounds on social media platforms about an alleged plan to “shutdown Kwara Radio (A.M).”

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Communications, Dr. Muideen Akorede told The Herald that contrary to the fake news being peddled on social media, the government is actually planning to upgrade Radio Kwara and Midland FM.

He also assured that there is no truth whatsoever in the second leg of the said piece which alleged that the government was planning to sell the land on which the Radio Kwara transmitters are located.

“The Ahmed administration has never thought of shutting down Radio Kwara and it has no intention of selling the land on which the station’s transmitters are located,” he said.

While describing as most unfortunate, the peddling of such falsehood, Akorede disclosed that Radio Kwara and Midland FM stations are receiving the necessary attention from the state government.

“We are actually in the process of digitizing both Radio Kwara and Midland FM with ultra-modern equipment in keeping with modern trends in radio broadcasting all over the world,” he explained.

Akorede assured that plans are afoot to ensure that necessary upgrades and changes are effected on the equipment of Radio Kwara and Midland FM to enhance their effectiveness.
He said the state-owned television station, KWTV, has already received ample attention with the purchase and installation of modern equipment to enhance the quality and reach of its signals while its contents are also being turned around in readiness for the digital switch over.

“As you know, we have a repositioning programme in place for The Herald, Kwara Television, and Radio Kwara. The driving purpose is to make them function among the best in the country and be able to better serve the people within their coverage areas.

“The Herald is making progress with its positioning as the newspaper of the critical North Central Nigeria with a strong digital footprint.

We intend to make sure that very soon, it will have effective bureaus for its news and marketing operations in each of the North Central States and some key centres in the South-West,” he also said.

Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed is to meet with stakeholders and officials of Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) and Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in the State to discuss how the proportion of the N5.1b second tranche of Paris Club refund meant for salaries will be shared.

The Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Media and Communications, Dr. Muideen Akorede, who disclosed this on a radio programme on Thursday, said that the governor, who is currently in Abuja for the National Economic Council meeting, will meet with the labour leaders and leaders of thought when he returns to the State.

The statement noted that the meeting will decide whether the whole money should be used to pay part of local government workers' salaries only or be shared among local government workers, SUBEB staff, LG pensioners, state pensioners, tertiary institutions and as subventions to parastatals in the State.

It will be recalled that Governor Ahmed on Tuesday approved the release of N1b to local councils in the State to offset part of their salary arrears. The governor also approved the release of N312, 191, 101.71 to tertiary institutions in the State to towards arrears owed their staff.

Serious Drama Inside Church as Wife Attacks Pastor Who Ran Away With His Son's Wife

According to a report by SDE, the worshippers at an evangelical church in Luandeti, Kakamega County were last Sunday treated to a free-for-all drama.

This is after, Hilda Lwakane, an abandoned wife confronted her estranged husband, Patrick Lumbasi, who is a pastor, with his new wife, who happens to be an ex-wife to his son, in the house of God.

The fact that her ex-husband had the nerve to pay the church a visit (after staying away for over two years) and worship in the company of his new wife enraged Hilda Lwakane so much so that she attacked them minutes after they walked in.

According to SDE, Patrick Lumbasi was an assistant pastor at the church, before eloping with his son’s wife - only identified as Milly.

Two years ago, Lumbasi abandoned his wife with four children at his Luandeti home and moved to Turbo town in neighbouring Uasin Gishu County with his son’s wife. The woman already had a child with Lumbasi’s son.

News had spread about the incestuous marriage months ago, with Lumbasi’s brothers and kin trying to prevail upon him to end it in vain.

Perhaps out of curiosity of the state of his first family, Lumbasi returned to his home in the company of his new wife, but made a stop at the local church first to attend the service.

But hardly had the couple settled in the church than Lumbasi’s first wife, who had spotted them walking in, pounced on them with slaps as she wailed, calling the other woman “a husband snatcher”.

“I was overwhelmed by anger and couldn’t take it anymore. I had to attack them to teach them a lesson,” said Lwakane.

Before she could explain herself, ushers at the church threw her out for causing a scene in church.

A furious Lumbasi followed her out the church and asked her to pack her belongings and go back to her parents and leave behind the children to be taken care of by his new wife.

“He asked me to leave his home because I have embarrassed him and his family,” she said.

Vincent Musungu, the elder brother to Lumbasi revealed that the incestuous marriage has been the talk of town for a while, but their efforts to end it have been in vain.

“I stay in Nairobi and when I got wind of the relationship. I summoned the two (Lumbasi and Milly) with the intention of convincing them out of the illicit affair. He unfortunately turned hostile and asked me to mind my own business,” said Musungu who is currently away from work on leave.

The sad state of affairs disturbed Musungu who investigated further to know where they lived, hoping to have more talks with them so as to end the marriage.

“My inquest led me to Turbo, where they live and operate a general shop called Pamilly, an acronym of Patrick and Milly. I raised the matter with their senior pastor back in Lwandeti but it appeared he couldn’t solve the problem. I even involved village elders but all was in vain,” said Musungu.

By the time of filing this story, the abandoned wife had nowhere to go and was asking locals to defend her and help her by prevailing upon her husband to change his mind.

“We don’t know what to do. This is taboo, only that they are yet to sire a child together but they live with that child whom we don’t know if he now calls Lumbasi grandpa or dad. That marriage has to end and the two get cleansed,” said Musungu, expressing his worry on what will happen to Lwakane, once he travels back to Nairobi.

SDE could not reach Lumbasi’s son for comment.

Disease Outbreak Kills 17 In Kwara State

According to a report by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), a cholera outbreak in Kwara state has led to the death of 17 people.

This was disclosed in the agency's weekly epidemiological report for Week 26 released on Tuesday, July 18, 2017.

According to the report, 1,617 suspected cases of cholera were reported throughout the state with the 17 fatalities representing a 1.1% fatality rate.

A majority of 818 (50.5%) suspected cases were reported from the Ilorin West LGA of the state, with the most endangered group being children aged between one to five years old with a total of 460 (28.4%) cases. Males also made up over half of the reported cases, accounting for 51.6%.

The report advocated for people be more health conscious, focusing on "prevention of cholera through environmental hygiene practices."

According to the report, "Instituting the habit of good environmental hygiene is a first step in preventing cholera outbreaks in a community or region, as the transmission cycle is not established at this point and an outbreak can be prevented."

To observe proper hygiene, NCDC advised people to take proper care of residential areas, especially by disposing waste appropriately.

"Environmental hygiene, in this context, focuses on care of residential areas, proper treatment and disposal of waste during an outbreak," the report said.

The agency also said the fight for better hygiene should be a collaborative effort.

"To achieve the maximal impact of any of the aforementioned practices, a communal approach is encouraged. This will support better fostering and impact on the general public on the importance of environmental hygiene practices, in and out of an outbreak season.

"These preventive messages should constitute part of the messages given to the general public at the community, LGA, State and national levels before and during an outbreak," the agency's report noted.

Photos: Doctors Removed 200 Stones From the Body of a Woman Who Skip Breakfast

Doctors have removed several stones from a woman's body after she was found out to have missed breakfast regularly.

According to Metro UK, a woman has been told that this is what happens to you when you regularly skip breakfast.

More than 200 stones were removed from her body by doctors in an operation in China.

Guangji Hospital said that some of the stones were as big as eggs after they removed them from her gallbladder and liver.

Surgeons told her that more than a decade of missing breakfast was behind the appearance of the stones that took six-and-a-half hours to remove.

Identified only as Ms Chen, 45, doctors said she often ate leftovers and did not have a regular eating pattern.

She first started feeling abdominal pains over 10 years ago but she was afraid of going under the knife, so went against doctors’ advice to have an operation.

But last week the pain became unbearable and she had to have the gallstones removed.

Dr Quan Xuwei who operated on her said that if someone misses breakfast it stops their gallbladder from shrinking or expanding, leading to a build-up of bile.

That, he says, leads to high cholesterol and levels of calcium.

The NHS says that overweight women over the age of 40 are most likely to get gallstones. They can be avoided by losing weight and a good diet.

British doctors disagree with Dr Xuwei’s assessment saying that people in China and Eastern Asia are more likely to have stones because of an increased rate of infection in the bile ducts.

Dr George Webster says the cause is often unclear and linking dietary habits to gallstones would be ‘pure speculation with no scientific evidence base to support it.’

10-year-old Girl R*ped and Impregnated by Her Own Uncle Is Denied Abortion

A little girl who was r*ped and impregnated by her own uncle, has been denied the right to have an abortion.

A young Indian girl who was allegedly r*ped by her uncle has been told she is too young to have an abortion.

The Indian Express reports that the 10-year-old is six months pregnant but an Indian court also said that abortion was ‘not an option this stage’ because she is so far into her pregnancy.

The girl told her mother that she had been raped after they discovered she was pregnant when she complained of stomach pains.

She said that she had been sexually assaulted six times by her uncle when he visted their home in India, according to the Indian Express.

They applied to the court to allow her to have a termination, but Indian law states that women are not allowed the procedure beyond 20 weeks unless it threatens the mother’s life or if the foetus is genetically not viable.

Eight doctors examined her and they ruled that she should give birth because ‘the foetus is viable and can survive even if delivered now’.

One of the doctors told CBS: ‘Abortion is not an option at this stage. The only way to terminate the pregnancy is to deliver the baby.’

However, another doctor, Puneet Bedi who is based in Delhi, told The Quint that the abortion should ‘take place immediately’ to protect the girl’s psychological well-being.

She said: ‘Yes, there are risks and abortion at this stage is tough, but for the girl, who is still developing, the scars will be many.’

Umesh Jindal told the Times of India: ‘If legal permission is granted treating it as an exceptional case, it’s better to terminate the pregnancy.’

The girl’s family are now considering whether to appeal the decision at a higher court.
